A Community‐Driven Platform That Brings Cultural Superstitions to Life
User Interface Design (Personal Project)
Magic Words is an application for exploring cultural beliefs and superstitions worldwide. Users can share their superstitions, contribute stories, and edit existing entries to expand the collective knowledge base.
This personal project began with the idea that superstition offers a fun, approachable perspective for understanding different cultures, turning curiosity into playful exploration and shared learning.
Users can contribute entries from their own cultural background and location, fostering community participation and global cultural exchange.
Magic Words are organized by location, subject, and tags, enabling users to search for Magic Word using tags or keywords to find relevant content based on their interests.
Users can add context and cultural background to stories, enhancing their credibility and depth.
The app frames superstition as “magic,” using the metaphor of casting spells: saying magic words to achieve a result that benefits the speaker, similar to reading superstitions and cultural beliefs, helping users understand their traditions.
The visual concept highlights playfulness, curiosity, and engagement. By blending mystical elements with intuitive UI, the design encourages users to explore, share, and learn about cultural superstitions in a magical and accessible way.
A sun and moon motif is incorporated into the logo by replacing similar letters, reflecting the mystery and magic associated with cultural superstitions.
The color palette includes five gradients, providing visual contrast against a dark background and giving elements a luminous, magical effect. Accent illustrations were developed to guide users through app features while maintaining a consistent, enchanted aesthetic.
